What is a knit-along?

A knit-along, also known as a KAL, is where a group of knitters all knit the same project simultaneously.

This is done by a timed release of pattern sections so everyone has a chance to complete each section before moving forward.

If you enroll in this workshop between the dates April 11th 2024 and June 20th, 2024, you will receive our workshops and pattern at a discounted price.

About the Pattern

Being immersed in gansey style stitches over the last year has made me very eager to interpret them in a pattern of my own. While the stitches are inspired by gansey stitch patterns, the construction of this cardigan is not a gansey-style sweater.

The delicate knit/purl motifs are a wonderful way of forming textural stripes in your knitting-moving between textures rather than colours with your stripes.

So for the 2024 spring KAL, I couldn’t decide on short or long-sleeved, so I thought we could go with two options:

Option 1 – A v-neck cardigan with long sleeves that will work for cooler spring days or summer evenings.

Option 2 – A summer top that has a cute little short row cap-sleeves. Can be work either buttoned as a top or as a short sleeve cardigan over a summer dress.

Meet Your Teacher

Carol trained initially as a textile artist and then as a structural engineer. While both of these backgrounds are very different the influences can be seen in her design work which is well-shaped, flattering to wear and enjoyable to knit.

She strives to design clothing with a difference: not overly complex, but still giving a very unique end product. She likes to work with different construction methods, so long as they enhance the knitting experience and make for a more intuitively put-together knitted item.

Carol has been widely published in books and magazine and travels the world teaching in yarn shops and fibre festivals. The classes she teaches cover a wide range of subjects from cables and chart reading, through garment shaping and customisation right through to short rows and colourwork. In her classes you'll move from learning the basics to refining your knitting skills and fixing problems.

Want a Yarn Kit?

We are offering two yarn options for this knit:

Nua Sport - The soft combination of merino, yak and linen in a lighter weight makes it an ideal yarn for in-between weather. It’s soft enough to wear next to your skin and not so heavy that it’s overpowering it the weather turns milder.

BC Garn BIO Balance - This option is going to be what we knit the summer top version in, as it’s a better yarn combination for warm weather knits being 55% wool and 45% cotton. (There is a possibility that you will have to knit it a bit more loosely to get gauge, so don’t skip the gauge square!)
