Behind The Design

The Livia Wrap was designed by Eimear Earley and named after the fictional spirit of the River Liffey – Anna Livia, or Anna Livia Plurabelle.

The wrap is worked in a parallelogram shape, with tapered ends: adding extra length without bulk, and allowing for more versatility in wearing the wrap

The stitch motifs used in the Livia Wrap are inspired by the theme of ‘Abhainn agus Talamh’ – or River & Land and these cables have a deeper meaning within this shawl design.

The parallel waving cable motifs, to the side of the wrap, are inspired by graphic representations of land and rivers: illustrations of waves of water, animated flowing rivers, wave motifs of sashiko embroidery, curving lines on maps to show the topography of a landscape, distinct layers of soil exposed by archaeological digs.

Meet The Teacher

Carol trained initially as a textile artist and then as a structural engineer. While both of these backgrounds are very different the influences can be seen in her design work which is well-shaped, flattering to wear and enjoyable to knit.

She strives to design clothing with a difference: not overly complex, but still giving a very unique end product. She likes to work with different construction methods, so long as they enhance the knitting experience and make for a more intuitively put-together knitted item.

Carol has been widely published in books and magazine and travels the world teaching in yarn shops and fibre festivals. The classes she teaches cover a wide range of subjects from cables and chart reading, through garment shaping and customisation right through to short rows and colourwork. In her classes you'll move from learning the basics to refining your knitting skills and fixing problems.

Would you like a yarn kit?

Find all the yarn you need for the Livia Wrap in Stolen Stitches ‘Deas’.

Deas is an aran weight Irish yarn, 86% Merino Wool and 14% Mohair woollen spun yarn with a soft halo when blocked. The mohair content creates a warm fabric that is deceptively light to wear.

Kit contains yarn and a project bag only.
