If weaving in ends and seaming make you shudder then let me introduce you to the magic of top-down knitting.
I remember my first garment knit, and it was a top-down raglan. I didn’t think too much about it, and I just dove straight in head first thinking about my finished knit. In hindsight thinking about the anatomy of a sweater, gauge and yarn types probably would have been a good idea before I dove right in.
That's why this workshop has been specifically created to walk you through each stage of knitting your first cardigan.
If you are a beginner knitter, I advise enrolling in our 'Zero To Knit' bundle package which includes this workshop as well as our 'Knit Basics' workshop.
What's covered in this workshop?
This workshop takes you throught three stages:
Step One:
I will walk you through everything you need to get your cardigan started. From casting-on to the anatomy of the raglan construction you'll be knitting up a storm before you know it.
Step Two:
This is where things get interesting as we tackle the body and sleeves. Learn the seamfree secrets to a one piece cardigan as well as some top professional tips and tricks.
Step Three:
It's time to learn how to finish your garment life a professional! From sewing on buttons, weaving in ends, blocking and more, your cardigan will be completed to perfection as you conquer your cardigan ambition.

18 sts & 24 rows / rnds = 4” / 10 cm in St St
17 sts & 32 rows / rnds = 4” / 10 cm in Garter Stitch

Approx yarn needed: 208 (255, 302, 332, 357, 430, 500, 507, 673) yds / 190 (230, 274, 300, 322, 389, 453, 549, 609) m aran weight yarn
Class sample uses Studio Donegal ‘Soft Donegal’ (100% Merino; 207 yds / 189 m per 3.5 oz /100g skein); colour: Orange (5230); 1 (2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4) skeins
NEEDLES & NOTIONS:
US size 8 / 5mm circular needles, 32”/ 80 cm long
Plus US size 8 / 5mm if Magic Loop not used for sleeves
Always use a needle size that gives you the gauge listed, every knitter’s gauge is unique.
Stitch markers, waste yarn, tapestry needle, 4 buttons approx 1” / 2.5 cm diam.
Meet Your Teacher
Carol Feller trained initially as a textile artist and then as a structural engineer. While both of these backgrounds are very different the influences can be seen in her design work which is well-shaped, flattering to wear and enjoyable to knit.
She strives to design clothing with a difference: not overly complex, but still giving a very unique end product. She likes to work with different construction methods, so long as they enhance the knitting experience and make for a more intuitively put-together knitted item.
Carol has been widely published in books and magazine and travels the world teaching in yarn shops and fibre festivals. The classes she teaches cover a wide range of subjects from cables and chart reading, through garment shaping and customisation right through to short rows and colourwork. In her classes you'll move from learning the basics to refining your knitting skills and fixing problems.
